That shed in your back yard has been accumulating junk and trash for years, maybe even decades. Perhaps you inherited a home from a relative who put the shed up, and you have no idea what is inside it, or how long it has been there. Sheds have been popular since the 1960s in Baltimore, and it’s possible that it has been accumulating stuff for that long. Maybe your shed is the size of a small garage, and you know exactly what is inside because you have been stuffing it full every fall with the intent to clean it out every spring. Perhaps you just want to get rid of the shed because it is a glaring eyesore. Whatever the reason for you shed clean out or removal, Dumpstermaxx can help. We can provide you with a roll off dumpster to take away the junk and scrap. We can tell you what size your rental dumpster should be based on the size of the shed and the amount of trash it is likely to yield. It could be as easy as a spring cleanout or as time-consuming as a house clean out. Here are some ways to ensure you shed clean out and/or removal goes smoothly.
First, survey the exterior of the shed to make sure that it is safe to enter. If the roof is sagging, a wall is leaning in, or there any visible signs that the shed is going to collapse, the shed needs to be taken down before removing the contents. Having to take the shed apart may or may not be what your goal is, but an unsafe shed must be taken down.
Once you have determined your shed is safe to enter, make sure there is no wildlife present. You will need a professional trapper if a family of raccoons or other types of mammals have made their home out of your shed. Be careful of yellow-jackets who have been known to build nests in sheds, like the wildlife you will need a professional exterminator to remove the nest. When you have ensured there are no mammals or insects that pose a threat, it is time to take stock of what is inside the shed. There may be anything from tools to decorations for various holidays inside. Assess the condition of the contents, some things may be too far gone to save, those items should be disposed of in your rental dumpster first. Next, from what remains, decide what is useful or has sentimental value and what can be throw out. Keep in mind that if you find things like sheets of aluminum or copper wiring, they may have value as scrap and should be separated from items to be kept and thrown away. A scrap dealer may be willing to pick up your items if they are valuable enough.
After you have removed the contents of your shed its time to clean it or take it down. If you plan on keeping your shed, you will want to pressure wash the insides to remove years of dirt, mold, and other substances which may have gotten on the walls or floor. You can buy or rent pressure washers at most large hardware stores, or you may want to hire a professional to do the cleaning. Make sure there are no frayed electrical wires before pressure washing if there are any present they will need to be repaired by an electrician. If you plan on removing your shed, then assemble the requisite tools for the job and go to work. If the shed is made of wood, stone, or cinder block, it is most likely it will have to be demolished. You can use sledgehammers to do the job or bring in heavy equipment to take care of the demolition. The foundation, if it exists, will need to be dealt with similarly. If your shed is metal, the walls and roof may be sold for scrap.
